Growing up I was fortunate enough to live next door to Matt, born just a month after me.
We spent our whole childhood together and it was incredible
(I’m sure it was for our parents too now that I think of it.)
He or I would simply walk through the custom gate, built just for us, that adjoined our properties. Knock on the door and we’d ask “Can I play with Matt/Ben”
There were times our mothers would be in the middle of preparing a meal & have an “oh shit” moment. Realising they’ve run out of eggs, sugar, flour whatever it may be. A child was then sent (I’m one of 5, Matt one of 3) next door to return with a cup full of flour and 2 eggs in their pockets.
Crisis averted.
It’s a little sad to reflect on this TBH. It was a different time. Today, everyone’s much more outwardly looking (on their phones) but insular.
Don’t get me wrong, as an introvert, I’m all for my alone time.
But relationships like this are priceless.
Paul & I are both from large families and I’m sure he feels the same way. We want to foster these types of relationships at Hybrid too.
In a world where it’s increasingly about me, me, me, we love seeing real connections.
We’re proud that although we may not have custom gates, we have built a custom gym right here. Simple, supportive relationships that make showing up feel less like a solo grind and more like coming home.
In a world full of scrolling, let’s choose connection instead, who’s going to be first to ask for 1/2 cup of flour!?
