We Got Slapped in the Face by a Coach… And Realised We Already Knew the Secret

After a period of stagnation in the business (DW it’s normal) we are looking for a shift.

We just got off the phone with a business coach, and we went over our business and marketing strategies.

Immediately, he pointed out there’s plenty of room for growth – a nice way of slapping us in the face..

He then proceeded to dictate an ad that one of his successful clients was currently running.

Paul and I both looked at one another, nodding our heads.

Why?

Because it was the same strategy and technique we learnt over a decade ago!

We were well aware of it and understood it well.

Why then weren’t we doing it? Great question…

Small business’s can pivot quickly. We can, and do, trial new techniques and methods often.

Some work some don’t.

In this case – it was back to basics and using the basics consistently.

Just like in training. I can’t tell you the how many times I’ve both willingly and unwillingly revisited the basics.

Blown discs and chronic back pain – initially no basics were revisited. I’d wait for the pain to settle and jump back in, of course only to reinjure myself. (Young man mentality)

Trying functional training for the first time. Realising I can’t move functionally!

Fist Olympic lifting coaching session being told I’m as flexible as a piece of wood.

Even this year I’m ‘training’ less and homing in a basic, cossax squats to be specific.

A few cliches thrown your way again (as a friend of mine used to say:

There’s truth behind every cliche.)

  1. You’re never too good to go back to basics

  2. Consistency is key

We’ve always advocated for the slow and steady approach to training. After 20+ years in the industry we know the quick, short term goal orientated fixes fail long term. We know those that ignore the basics will keep running into the same roadblocks time and time again.

So just like our reminder today. Here’s yours.

What “basic” have you been avoiding?

Who knows, it might just get you back to playing the sport you love!
