Fat Hungry Cars

You jump in the car after a long day at work, slouch into the drivers seat, snap the seat belt on and away you go. Or so you thought.

Turn the headlights on & path the way forward through the night haze. Unfortunately, this reveals your fuel tank sitting precariously low. Range – <5kms. You’ve really pushed your luck this time!

In this moment, you panic, your driving style suddenly shifts. The lights turn green, yet you hardly react. Anxiety rises as you get that impatient beeeep from the car behind. You stick to your plan, ever so gradually squeezing on the power trying to savor every last drop of petrol.

The next set of traffic lights turn amber. Damit. Let’s roll through, you think to yourself. You definitely won’t last sitting there waiting for the lights to open.

And so, this uneasy drive continues. Finally, your prayers get answered. The nearest petrol station reveals itself, just meters down the road.

Heart rate drops. A sense of ease floods your body. Back in business. Ready to rumble.

The same reaction occurs in our bodies when we don’t fuel it. It does everything it can to preserve whatever is in the tank.

  • Your body will slow down to preserve energy

  • Calories are spared in the breakdown of food

  • There’s less food to begin with so less calories are being used to break it down

  • Intensity of planned activity is reduced.

  • You feel more lethargic, less likely to take the stairs

  • Even going as far as eating itself !

Now for clients in this position, it’s a difficult concept to get their heads around. Eat more & get toned?

In the first week they might give it a shot, only to jump on the scales and see a larger number!!

OH, HELL NO! – Reverting back to their old ways.

This is like arriving at the petrol station, filling up, only to drive around the corner and siphon it all out again! Back to square one.

Give your body time to adapt, to register that’s its tank is full & get back in business.

You’ll be surprised at how far it will drive you!
